Black, White and Green by Heather Sandifer

8 03 2017

It’s the beginning of March, which means we Heather Sandiferneed to tell you all about our new show in the A.I. Friedman Gallery. Black, White and Green by Heather Sandifer is unlike any show we have hosted┬áso far.

Heather Sandifer creates “nature monotypes” a unique one-off printing technique that she developed after becoming frustrated with the fragility of preserved plants. Heather’s love of nature started from a young age when she would accompany her mother into the woods to collect plants for┬ápressing and sketching. Later when she was an instructor for the New York Botanical Garden she discovered the herbarium, a preserved plant blank. She began using the classical plant preservation method and was artistically inspired by the results.

She is a hunter/gatherer with exclusive permission to collect plants from some of the finest gardens on the East Coast. It takes Heather approximately 30 different steps to complete even her most simple pieces. She has been awarded a Certificate in Botanical Art & Illustration from the New York Botanical Garden and has shown her work all around the area.

You can view Black, White and Green for the entire month of March. We will be having an Opening Reception at the gallery on Saturday, March 11th from 1pm to 3pm where you can meet the artist and see the beautiful works in person.
